Note: The information and steps outlined below are for installing and registering the Concurrent User licensing model of CommonLook PDF on your machine. If you need to install and use the Single User licensing model, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for that installation information.
Important Note: Prior to the installation of CommonLook PDF, when using the Concurrent User licensing model, you must first install the CommonLook Licensing Server, which manages the concurrent licenses on individual workstations.
After installing the CommonLook Licensing Server, follow the instructions below to install and register CommonLook PDF on the work machines.

IMPORTANT: Before installing CommonLook® PDF, please ensure that the workstation meets the following minimal requirements.
- Windows 10, 8, 7, or Vista
- Adobe Acrobat 8.0, 9.0, 10.0 (Acrobat X) or 11.0 (Acrobat XI), Standard or Professional, Adobe Acrobat DC.

Note: The installation MUST be performed while logged in to Windows as a user with Administrative Privileges on the local machine.
Locate and run the CommonLook PDF installer.
The first step when installing CommonLook PDF will be to accept the terms of the “License Agreement.” Please read and agree with the “License Agreement,” check the “I agree to the license terms and conditions” checkbox, and select “Install.”
Setup will extract the files needed to install CommonLook PDF.
Choose “Yes” when asked if you want to allow the program to make changes to your computer.
The setup will begin after the extraction process is complete. Depending on your workstation environment, prior to installing CommonLook PDF, you may also have to install Microsoft.NET 4.0. (If needed, this prerequisite is installed automatically, however, you may have to reboot your machine one or more times during this part of the setup.)
The CommonLook PDF installation will continue after necessary prerequisites have been installed.
On the “Welcome Screen,” choose “Next.”
The “Register CommonLook PDF GlobalAccess” screen will open. Choose “Register Now.”
A window will open with options to choose your Licensing model. Select the “Concurrent” radio button. (Remember, as stated above, if you need to use the Single User Licensing model, you’ll need to contact our support team for the proper installation information.)
Below the Concurrent Licensing Model radio button, there are fields in which to enter your “Product Key,” “Server Port,” and “Server Address.”
If you’re upgrading from a previous version of CommonLook PDF, your Product Key will be entered in the “Product Key” field already. If this is a new installation, enter the Product Key supplied by CommonLook in the download email.
For the Server information (Port and Address), if the Licensing Server Manager is:
- Hosted by your organization: The system administrator who set up the Licensing Server Manager will be able to provide you with the Server Port and Server Address information.
- Hosted by CommonLook: The Server Port is 48801 and the Server Address is 188.8.131.52.
Helpful Tip: Make sure that you remember your Product Key and Server information for future use!
After you’ve input the necessary Product Key, and Server information Select the “Register” button.
After registering, choose “Next.”
The “Destination Folder” screen allows you to specify a target folder for the software installation. It’s recommended that you use the default.
On the “Ready to install” screen, select the “Install” button.
Once the installation is completed, select “Finish.”
“Close” the screen that indicates the installation was successful.
Once CommonLook PDF has been installed and registered, you’re ready to begin using it!
Please refer to the CommonLook PDF User’s Guide for additional help using the software. Hint: You may find the “Quick Start Guide” particularly helpful.
Open a tagged PDF in Adobe Acrobat and, in the toolbar at the top, choose “Plug-Ins.” In the menu that opens, choose “CommonLook” and then choose “CommonLook PDF GlobalAccess.”
If the PDF is not tagged, an error message, like the one pictured below, will appear, stating that the document is untagged and that the user should add tags in Acrobat before opening CommonLook.
If CommonLook Won’t Open and the Document Has Tags
When opening CommonLook PDF, the software will “ping” the server to see if there are any available “seats” for the licensing key. If there are “seats” available, CommonLook will open. If there aren’t any “seats” available then an error message, like the one below, will be displayed, telling the user that CommonLook is unable to connect to the server and requesting that the user try again later.
